Adonis Stoantzikis works across painting and sculpture, exploring the point at which an image begins to behave like matter and matter takes on the presence of a living form. His works develop through accumulation, erasure, modelling, casting, and repeated material alteration. Oil, tempera, graphite, polymer clay, epoxy resin, plaster, steel, and concrete are treated not as neutral supports, but as active agents, each imposing its own duration, resistance, and capacity for change.

Rather than depicting recognizable organisms, Stoantzikis constructs post-organic morphologies that hover between biological growth and artificial fabrication. In the paintings, translucent layers, abrasions, and cavities destabilize the surface, making the image appear to emerge, recede, or mutate. In the sculptures, related forms detach from the picture plane and occupy space as ambiguous bodies—sedimentary, anatomical, and synthetic at once.

Painting and sculpture operate as a continuous field, each testing how form is stored, transformed, and reconstituted through material processes.

Adonis Stoantzikis (b. 1984, Athens) is a visual artist based in Athens, working across painting and sculpture. His recent solo exhibition A-VOID-IN(G)-MATTER was presented at POEMS Art Space, Hydra (2025), curated by Dimitrios Antonitsis. His work has also been exhibited at Ileana Tounta Contemporary Art Center, Athens; BBA Gallery, Berlin; Galerie Bart, Amsterdam; KunstRAI, Amsterdam; Hydra School Projects; and the Municipal Gallery of Athens. He holds an MFA from the Frank Mohr Institute, Hanze University, and a BFA from the Athens School of Fine Arts. In 2024, he completed a PhD at the University of West Attica on printed matter, artist’s books, and technology. He currently teaches at the Athens School of Fine Arts.
